Sara -
owner of Violet Jane.
I learned to hook when I was very young (about 6) from my Grandma Eliza Jane
Burghoff.  I didn't hook a rug until I was in my 30's. Boy was that first rug ugly!
Soon after moving to Vermont in 1988 I got online and joined a group on AOL. I met
Hookit (Barbara Jones) who sent me information about dyeing.  I found out she lived in
the same area of Vermont as I did, and she encouraged me to join the Green
Mountain Rug Hooking Guild (it had a different name back then - and less than 100
members, now it's up to 700) and the Richmond rug hooking group. Both groups have
changed my life!

Design and punch-hooking by Sara Burghoff in
August 2006. This was my Oxford certification
project.
My latest completed project (above) is a design by Cherylyn Brubaker of
Hooked Treasures
in Maine. This mat is hooked using the traditional
method and strips of wool material in a #6 cut. The light and dark blue
backgrounds are tweed fabric - they give the mat a really nice texture.
